A mother of a special needs child who ate chocolate to relieve her stress paid me the highest compliment when she wrote...

"Being coached by Anne is like eating chocolate, you don’t know how good it is until you try it for yourself."

Parenting Children with Special Needs Discussion Groups

My coaching is designed to provide support, information and encouragement for parents, grandparents, health professionals and care givers involved in the care of children with Special Needs.

The quickest way to distribute information to the most people in the shortest amount of time is to use groups discussions, which target the challenges of a specific disability with like minded people grouped together.

While my coaching is directed towards you personally, you need to be aware that it will not make your child’s special needs go away, but it will improve your parenting skills which in turn will make it easier to deal with your child’s special needs.

Coaching is

  • two people working on one person’s outcomes
  • the creation of a unique relationship
  • open communication between the two of us which means nothing is too hard to discuss

As a paediatric Occupational Therapist I know well the challenges you are facing, the day to day routines which become blocked with appointments for your child, the constant juggling of time frames, the little things which are the straw that breaks the camel’s back and cause yet another crisis in your life, the demands of managing a home and catering for the needs of your typically developing children, as well as caring for your husband/partner, to name just a few. I know you feel alone in this situation, but I also have the experience to know that you are not alone, other people have gone through these situations before you and there will be others who feel the same way long after you have reached some conclusions. You are also not alone because I am here to assist you to sort out your challenges and create some answers for your specific situation.

I also know there is a way to improve your life style, but often you are so involved in the day-to-day scheduling with so little time for yourself, that it becomes impossible to see the possibility of change. Spending time talking with Anne will show you that I am a coach with wide-ranging knowledge and experience. I appreciate your challenges, and I know that your situation is very personal. I can assist you to create order out of chaos, to make some time for yourself, improve your situation, and as well as have the medical knowledge and expertise to answer your questions.

Who leads these discussions?

Anne Mace is a paediatric Occupational Therapist with extensive experience in working with special needs children and their families, administering developmental assessments, planning and implementing programmes for the special needs children, and running support and counselling groups for the parents.
  • I also worked with primary school teaching staff to advise on management of the special needs children who were in their classrooms.
  • I am a mature fun-loving person with a great sense of humour, who is widely read, enjoys entertaining, gardening, wine and watching sport
  • I am a professionally trained coach who has graduated from Coach U, the premier provider of coach training in the States.
  • I have lived and worked in New Zealand, England, Canada, and Hong Kong, with an understanding enriched by these international experiences
  • I am a very caring listener whose non-judgmental attitudes are empathetic and powerful, designed to maximize the benefits you receive from being coached by me. This combination of personal and professional information, and the understanding gained along the way allows me to provide you with some very relevant and valuable insights to use with your own children with special needs, as well as your typically developing family members.

The personal benefits of having Anne as your own coach are

  • on-going support for you at all times whatever your situation
  • an impartial person to discuss things with who will always give you open, honest answers from someone who understands the medical and personal implications of your situation
  • non-judgmental listening which allows you to be accurately heard at all times
  • creation of a personalized strategic action plan to fast forward your accomplishments
  • improved time management and development of your ability to use your special talents and skills to create a better life style for yourself

All my clients are articulate, thinking people who are prepared to take action to improve a situation which is causing distress, disorganization and maybe even confusion in their lives.

Having a child with special needs in your family creates special challenges for you as the parents, grandparents or caregivers of that child. While treatment is available for your child, parents, grandparents and care givers are sometimes just left to manage as best they can, often without the support that makes your parenting skills easier, more efficient, and more effective for your child. I believe that answering your questions and creating solutions to your challenges will lighten your load and make your parenting easier.

If you have unhappy parents, you will have unhappy children, and the challenges will remain while questions remain unanswered.

Use me as your coach if you would like to

  • have time to focus on your needs, rather than those of your child
  • have the opportunity to be an individual rather than just a transport provider
  • have some management pointers
  • discus your family situation with someone who has worked extensively with special needs children and their families

While using me as your coach you can expect to learn new ways on

  • how to manage the time constraints of treatment schedules and transportation requirements
  • the best way to ensure quality time for your typically developing children
  • the very best ways to create manageable daily routines for yourself
  • how to manage the issues that bother you most.

The coaching process is very simple

  • group discussion sessions are held by phone or skype as indicated
  • you block off the dates for your sessions, and call me at the appropriate time prepared to take action to achieve results
  • you take action before the next call when you share your accomplishments or questions

Coaching is a fun way of achieving results, I love it and my clients gain the kind of benefits that keep them coming back for more.

I love the way I learn from my clients during our calls and would really love you to be part of this dynamic process as well.

My aim is to make your life easier as I really care about YOUR ability to enjoy YOUR life.

Peace and love to you all my friends.
